Janet has shown her work in many venues over the last 10 years, including the National Capital Network of Sculptor’s Annual “Dimensions” show, the Cube, the Rothwell Gallery, Patrick John Mills Gallery, Fritzi Gallery, Figureworks, Ottawa Art Association exhibits, and Worldview’s Gallery in Ottawa, and the Robert Macklin Gallery in Kingston.
From 1999 to 2007, Janet balanced her art with her industrial design career, which has involved working on public art and outdoor bronze projects with the National Capital Commission. Since 2007, she has devoted her time to her art, creating bronze sculpture and oil paintings out of “Worldview Studio,” located in Ottawa’s Sandy Hill neighbourhood.
More often than not, her sculptures use the human form to convey her fascination with the beauty, mystery and recurring cycles of relationships, as well as with the pure joy of existence. The style of her sculptures is reminiscent of Art Nouveau. She has explored many themes over the years—from fairies to family relationships, dance, the drama and excitement of Wagner’s Ring Cycle opera and, most recently, the awe and magnificence of whales.
Although, Sculpture is Janet’s passion, her painting is her Joy. She paints what gives her joy – from the expanse of the universe as seen through the hubble telescope, to the wonderful landscapes found in Eastern Ontario and Quebec. In particular she loves painting these landscapes reflected in water. Her style is vibrant and rich and reminiscent of the Group of Seven.
For Janet, the art she produces is about capturing the beauty of life. Her creative purpose is to take the viewer along with her, to somewhere peaceful and uplifting.
